MadeByMe CAREER EXPLORATION FAIR
Friday, October 2, 2020

MadeByMe - Powered By Greater Fort Wayne is collaborating with Ivy Tech Community College Fort Wayne to allow industry partners to connect with high school students and school partners; bridge the gap and allow for exposure/insight to construction and advanced manufacturing automation and robotics industries; and allow the industry partners to breakdown myths and share their company’s needs.  In years past, this event was held in the Steel Dynamics, Inc Keith Busse Technology Center; however, due to social distancing measures, this year the event will be a virtual experience allowing participants to attend from anywhere with an Internet connection.

Manufacturing and construction are the foundation of Indiana's economy. These industries are high-tech and driven by innovation. They are high-paying and cutting-edge. According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD), 1 in 5 jobs in Allen County is in either the manufacturing or construction industries. Average annual earnings (wages plus benefits) for manufacturing workers in Allen County is $76,226; for construction workers, $62,369. Employers need workers who blend traditional skills (machining, welding, fabrication technologies, carpenters) with engineering skills (process improvement, quality assurance, and design).

A growing share of these jobs require an Ivy Tech Community College certification and/or an associate's degree.  Ivy Tech's programs are developed in collaboration with employers to provide students the best chance of landing an internship-work based learning experience and then their dream job!
